Countdown to host fundraiser ball for Children's Ward

There’s growing excitement in Wanganui Hospital’s Children’s Ward. For the first time ever, the Countdown Supermarket chain is extending its annual fundraising appeal to include Wanganui Hospital’s Children’s Ward.

On Saturday 15 September, Countdown Whanganui will host the Winter Wonderland Charity Ball in the Wanganui War Memorial Hall.

Priced at $60, the ball will begin at 6.30pm with a buffet dinner served at 7.30pm – dress formal.

Clinical nurse manager paediatrics Janene Louwrens says she can’t think of a nicer way to raise money for sick children and she’s delighted that rather than limit their appeal to New Zealand’s large, high profile children’s wards Countdown is generously extending its efforts to include provincial children’s wards.

“It’s very exciting for all our staff, the hospital and the Whanganui community,” Mrs Louwrens says. “It tells us that Countdown recognises the good work we do and they understand that, like larger hospitals, there is always opportunity to improve our equipment and purchase items that may not be covered by normal funding.

“Anything that can help us care for sick children whether it’s life-saving equipment or something that makes life a little easier or more comfortable for them and their families is a huge plus.”

Mrs Louwrens says she hopes ticket sales will be brisk 'because the money raised is going to very good cause'.

Tickets are available at both Countdown supermarkets in Whanganui and Etctera fashion store in Victoria Avenue.
