Delicious Christmas fare planned for Wanganui Hospital patients

18 December 2012

Roast lamb and chicken with gravy served with roast vegetables and seasonal green vegetables, steamed plum pudding with brandy sauce or panna cotta with a berry sauce, will be served to patients spending Christmas Day in Wanganui Hospital.

An estimated 100 Whanganui patients will be offered the festive menu prepared by Spotless Services kitchen staff.

A delicious vegetarian filo roll is the second option for the main, with roast vegetables and seasonal green vegetables to complete the lunch menu.

In the evening, dinner will start with one of three options - glazed ham off the bone (with roasted summer vegetables and a cous cous salad), a turkey and cranberry sandwich (with salad items) or a roast vegetable and feta salad.

Patients will have the choice of two evening desserts – pavlova, cream and berry sauce, or red and green jelly and ice cream.

On Christmas Eve, patients will be offered Christmas ‘treats’ served on trays with a festive theme. And Christmas Day will begin with croissants and fruit toast added to the breakfast menu.

Meals on Wheels clients will receive a chilled Christmas Day meal on Christmas Eve, which they can heat through. The staff café menu for Christmas Day will follow the same dinner menu as the one offered to patients.

The main staff cafeteria will be closed to the public on Christmas Day. The Espresso Café in the main hospital building will be closed from 24 December to 7 January.
