WDHB celebrates 7 November National Oral Health Day

Whanganui’s dental therapists are celebrating National Oral Health Day this Friday by encouraging mums, dads and children to take good care of their teeth and make sure they heed Vodafone Warriors rugby league star Shaun Johnson’s advice to look after their teeth.

This year’s National Oral Health Day theme ‘Dental Fitness’ highlights the importance of being dentally fit to maintain physical fitness. The New Zealand Dental Association says as an elite sportsman, Johnson understands the importance of being dentally fit to stay healthy and maintain the level of fitness required for a professional rugby player.

“It is really easy to let our dental health slip,” Johnson says. “Most of us know to brush twice daily to keep our teeth clean. But there are other things like flossing and regular dental check-ups that are
important too. Make sure you:
  • Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste
  • Floss daily
  • Visit your dentist regularly
  • Have a healthy diet
  • Stop smoking
