Mrs Ball’s appointment fills the position previously held by highly regarded board member Richard Orzecki who died in June of this year.
Mrs McKinnon said Mrs Ball would bring a range of skills and experience to the role which Mrs McKinnon and her fellow board members would find very valuable now, and into the future.

“Barbara’s extensive governance experience includes Iwi representative to a number of organisations including Hauora a Iwi, the Whanganui Regional Health Network, the Ngā Iwi o Mokai Patea Services Trust, and director of Taihape Health Limited owned by Whanganui Regional Health Network.
“Barbara also has wide business experience spanning the last 20 years. In 2001, she was sworn in as a Justice of the Peace.”
Of Ngāti Whitikaupeka, Ngāti Tamakopiri, Ngai te Ohuake and Ngāti Hauiti, with affiliations with Te Atiawa, Tainui, Ngāti Maniapoto, Rangitane and Tūwharetoa, Mrs Ball says she is honoured by the Minister’s confidence in her ability to add value to the Whanganui DHB and she looks forward to being part of the effort to lift the health status of the community she serves.
“I feel delighted, humbled and privileged to be appointed to the board,” Mrs Ball said. “Health is one of the most challenging and exciting sectors one can be part of.
“I look forward to working with the WDHB management and the community we serve to meet the challenges and opportunities we have to enhance the health outcomes of our population by delivering the best possible service we can.”
