WDHB's contingency planning for RMO strike well underway

12 October 2016
Whanganui District Health Board (WDHB) confirmed today its contingency planning is well underway to ensure patients receive a full range of emergency and acute services, plus as many elective services as can safely be provided, during the resident doctors’ strike from 7am October 18 to 7am October 20.

WDHB chief executive Julie Patterson says she can assure the Whanganui community that the DHB’s contingency planning is going well, and that staff are pulling together to minimise the level of disruption felt by patients and the public.

“Unfortunately, we do have to reschedule some elective surgery and outpatients clinics booked for those two days so we’ll be contacting patients affected by this as soon as possible,” Mrs Patterson says.

“I want to stress that all decisions regarding rescheduling of appointments and surgery will be made with patient safety foremost in our minds and that patient safety will continue to be a top priority for us during the strike period.

“Please note that the Emergency Department will be open for ‘business as usual’ and if any Whanganui residents have concerns regarding service provision leading up to, and during the strike, you are welcome to  contact the hospital operator on 06 348 1234.”
