Whanganui DHB response to inaccuracies in Wanganui Chronicle
back

16 March 2013

Information in the Wanganui Chronicle article on 9 March 2013 has raised concerns for some older people and their families.

Between April and June 2012, Whanganui residents were waiting on average 23 working days
for a needs assessment - not an average of 79 days for Whanganui rest home residents to receive the
‘right care’, as was claimed in the article.

Safety is always our priority. If a person’s need is serious they will be assessed urgently.

The WDHB is confident that no–one waiting for an assessment is at risk and the wait times are,
as shown, reasonable.
