What is Health Promotion?

Health promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control over and improve their health.

Health is a holistic concept where a balance of factors can affect wellbeing: Te taha wairua (spiritual), te taha hinengaro (mental), te taha tinana (physical), te taha whanau (family), te taha turoa (environment), te reo (language).

The principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion are brought together in the Treaty Understanding of Hauora in Aotearoa-New Zealand (TUHA-NZ) to develop a model for health promotion in Aotearoa-New Zealand.
