Radiology — Nelson Marlborough

Radiology Services provides different types of medical imaging of the body, including internal organs, bones and tissues. The images help with the diagnosis of damage or disease and help guide treatment.

The radiology departments at Nelson Hospital and Wairau Hospital provide a range of inpatient and outpatient services to the region.

  • mammography
  • magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • ultrasound.

Breast imaging in Nelson is contracted to the private practice Pacific Radiology (PRG). PRG also holds the local contract for the Breast Screening programme.

Routine obstetric scanning at Nelson Hospital is contracted to Pacific Radiology or Koru Ultrasound.

At Wairau Hospital it is contracted to Marlborough Medical Imaging.

Radiology staff

These services are supported by radiologists based at Nelson Hospital. A visiting radiology service at Wairau Hospital is provided by Pacific Radiology.

Both Nelson Hospital and Wairau Hospital have a team of medical imaging technologists (MITs), sonographers, clinical assistants, nurses and office staff.
