Registered social workers can provide help to you and your whānau if you are experiencing problems arising from ill health or disability. We provide support in the community across Nelson Marlborough and while you are in hospital.

Services we provide

Social workers are trained to respond to people's emotional, psychosocial and practical needs. We advocate on your behalf to ensure your rights, responsibilities and entitlements are respected.

We provide services across a wide range of areas, including:

  • grief and loss
  • the effects of hospitalisation
  • lifestyle changes
  • adjustment to a newly-diagnosed condition or disability
  • traumatic births
  • pregnancy options
  • trauma (accidents, amputations, acute presentation of illness)
  • stress and mild anxiety
  • whānau and carer issues, including vulnerable children and adults
  • frequent admissions due to a lack of social support
  • isolation as a result of health issues.
